Our Industrial Association, has some new initiatives and a revised strategic direction that have been developed to deliver a more prosperous outcome for our members and our industry in the long term.
Since our establishment in 2003 our Industrial Association has almost exclusively assisted Prison Officers in matters concerning their employment.
With the changing face of our industry here in Queensland it has become necessary to move with the times and invest resources in adderessing the core issues confronting not just our members on an individual basis, but also those issues that affect our industry.
Matters such as the climbing rate of recidivism are a real concern to our Industrial Association as well as other issues such as the alarming trend of incarcerating people with mental health issues. Prison Officer ARE NOT QUALIFIED to treat persons with mental desease and this must be addressed as a matter of urgency.
Other concerns are the overrepresentation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in our system. These combine to present all stakeholders with a challenging Charter and one that must be regarded as a common series of concerns where collective efforts are necessary if these concerns are to be overcome.
We hope the true spirit of our objectives will be embraced by the decision makers and other Stakeholders, we encourage all conerned people to make contact with our Industrial Association and particpate in forums to workshop these issues. Please express your interest in particpating in these forums by emailing us at mail@qpoa.com.au
