BASHINGS BEHIND BARS July 12, 2008 Prison guards have allegedly been targeted in violent assaults at the Maryborough Correctional Centre in the past few weeks. The shocking reports have surfaced following convicted murderer Scott Maygar being charged on Monday with attempted murder. One prison guard was punched in the face and beaten so badly by a number of prisoners last Friday night that he was rushed to hospital with serious facial injuries, a Corrective Services spokesperson has confirmed. While the prisoner was being escorted away from the injured guard, a different staff member was assaulted and received minor injuries. The spokesperson said another major assault last Saturday about 4.30pm had also resulted in a prisoner being rushed to hospital with fractures to his ankle and a wound requiring stitches.
